Lead Developer

The core responsibilities of the Lead Developer role include managing, leading and mentoring a small team of developers while continuing to be hands on with the code day-in and day-out. This role will work with the digital team to set company-wide technical standards, propose innovative approaches to each project, and ensure everything we do is deployed bug-free, scalable and has the highest standards. In addition, in this role, you’ll be expected to partner with the Director of Digital, Creative and Account Directors as well as agency leadership to consistently ensure SHS is creating relevant, useful and enviable work in the digital space.

Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of professional Web development experience
  • Has lead or managed other developers in some capacity

Requirements

  • Maintain, contribute and adhere to our best practices and documentation
  • Expert at writing semantic, well-formed and standards-compliant HTML; hand-in-hand with writing modular, cascading and reusable CSS
  • Ability to communicate technical topics to non-technical persons
  • Familiar with HTML templating (WordPress PHP templates, Jade, Liquid, etc.)
  • Experience using JavaScript, jQuery and JSON on both server and client side
  • Comfortable building new databases and writing SQL
  • Familiar with Javascript automated build tools like Gulp or Grunt
  • Comfortable using terminal / console commands
  • Experience using Git as a source code management tool
  • Familiar with converting PSD compositions into code
  • Experience building and integrating REST APIs
  • Stays informed of emerging technologies that could benefit the digital team, agency and our clients
  • Be self-directed and able to prioritize workload
  • Strive for an excellent end-user experience at every step of the way
  • Strong communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and provide performance reviews for development team members
  • Set technical standards and ensure all standards are followed by all members of the development team
  • Work directly with strategists, producers and designers to propose innovative ideas and solutions for our clients
  • Develop documentation on processes and procedures
  • Ability to define project specifications and accurately estimate effort for timelines and deliverables
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities
  • Ability to work both collaboratively with colleagues on project teams as well as independently and efficiently
