Children’s Mercy Kansas City Selects SHS as Creative Agency for Philanthropic Efforts

Children’s Mercy Kansas City, one of the nation’s top pediatric medical centers, has chosen Sullivan Higdon & Sink (SHS) to develop key marketing and advertising initiatives with the aim of increasing awareness of the philanthropic need for Children’s Mercy.

“Being part of work that quite literally changes lives is humbling and inspiring for our team,” said John January, SHS co-chief executive officer. “To work with Children’s Mercy means more than adding to our roster. It gives us a chance to support a meaningful mission – and its impact on the community.”

Children’s Mercy has been a leader in pediatric medicine for more than 120 years. While many in the community remain unaware of Children’s Mercy’s status as a nonprofit, the hospital’s commitment to serve all children – regardless of a family’s ability to pay – has never wavered. Donor gifts of all sizes benefit communities where Children’s Mercy has a presence, including Kansas City, Wichita and Joplin.

Today, Children’s Mercy is comprised of two hospitals, eight multi-specialty outpatient centers and numerous outreach clinics throughout Missouri and Kansas. The only freestanding comprehensive children’s hospital between St. Louis and Denver, Children’s Mercy provides care for patients from birth to age 21.

“Since our founding in 1897, Children’s Mercy has provided the highest level of pediatric care to every child who passes through our doors. We’ve been able to do that, thanks in large part to the generous contributions of time, talent and treasure from our community,” said Laurie Ellison, Children’s Mercy chief marketing officer. “Sullivan Higdon & Sink brings an insightful combination of research and creative to us. Partnering with them will increase our visibility and philanthropic outcomes, and allow us to continue serving families in their greatest time of need.”

Agency assignments will include marketing and communications to create a comprehensive philanthropic marketing campaign. The primary focus will be on telling the story of how its local communities can help continue the mission of the hospital. These efforts will ensure Children’s Mercy remains a nationally ranked leader in pediatric care serving families regardless of their ability to pay.
