How SHS Art-Directed SONIC’s Summertime Photo Shoot to Cool Off Consumers

New SONIC packaging brings the beach, road trip, camping and pool party to the drive-in

Sullivan Higdon & Sink was recently featured in Graphic Design USA for its packaging work that makes SONIC Drive-Ins the ultimate destination for summer fun.
The new packaging family debuted in May to celebrate the season and is designed to tie in with SONIC’s Daily Drink Destination theme.

SHS created four designs that were used across five cups and two bag sizes. Designs feature different summer destinations to show that wherever summer takes you, SONIC is there to help you drink it in.

“We wanted to wrap each cup and bag with visuals and messaging that would encourage our customers to really engage with the package,” SHS Creative Director Jon Kowing said. “Force them to turn them around in their hands and take it all in. To reward them when they spot a small detail like a little crab on the beach.”

Destination designs include a beach getaway, a flavor-filled road trip, a campout and a pool party. The playful design elements and bright colors send customers on a delicious adventure that will keep them coming back for more all season.

SHS has been designing SONIC’s on-lot point of sale since 2013.

“It’s rewarding to let people know that SHS is responsible for supporting one of the top 10 QSRs in the country and making the experience for their thousands of customers just a little bit better,” Kowing said.
