Longtime Sheephater Recognized Among WSU Outstanding Alumni

SteveHart_headshotSteve Hart, SHS’s group director of brand management, has been recognized by Wichita State University’s Elliott School of Communication for his achievements in the field of communications.

Hart was selected to receive the Elliott School of Communication’s Outstanding Alumni Award for 2016, which is open to graduates of WSU’s Elliott School of Communication or the former departments of speech or journalism. After graduating from WSU in 1976 with a degree in journalism, Hart worked at The Wichita Eagle as a part-time sports writer, covering high school sports and working on the occasional feature. After three years, he transitioned into advertising, marketing and sales promotion.

In his 21 years with SHS, he has focused primarily on aviation, aerospace and defense, one of SHS’s key focus areas. Throughout his career, he has worked at three Wichita-area advertising agencies, promoting brands such as Zenith, Frigidaire, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas, Westar Energy, Spirit AeroSystems, Pratt & Whitney, Engine Alliance, Cessna Aircraft Co., and many others.

As group director, he mentors SHS brand managers and provides direction, proactive thinking, perspective and expertise to help clients maximize their investment in marketing. Hart said he got a great start at the Elliott School.

“My career has been built on the foundational training I received at WSU,” says Hart. “The experiences I had there gave me the confidence I needed to explore and grow in the communication fields that I chose.”
